I'm trying to create some templates for OneNote which have a gradient title
area at the top (resembling the side of a golden-coloured tube).

Using examples from the provided stationery it would seem that you need to
import the graphic object, size it, and then select "Set picture as
background".

However when I try to do this, I get a white border around the top and left
of the picture, and I can't get it to neatly position in the top-left of the
screen. Anyone know how to stop this please?

I know that I have seen notes somewhere on how to remove the blank space,
but (of course) since I didn't put it in OneNote I can't find it now. :)
However, you might check out the Template manager tool:

I think that when you create templates with it, the blank space isn't added.
