Discussion:
Removing some tags and getting extra tags

I have no use for a lot of the tags, and would like to remove some of them,
to keep the list a bit shorter and neater. Can I remove some of the default
tags?

I would like some other tags, like a big red cross (X) and a simple green
tick mark. Can I get extra tags from anywhere?

Thanks

Do you mean the tag definitions? The defaults and any others can be
changed/removed by going to Insert | Tag | Customize My Tags. Select a Tag
and click on "Remove" to delete it from the list.

The icons used as part of the Tag definitions are hard-coded and cannot be
changed or added to. From the same location mentioned above, you can add a
new Tag or modify an existing one - there are additional icons available
for use, including several checkboxes, but again, you can't add any icons
to the list of choices.

Okay, thanks. I'll have a look at editing the definitions and getting rid of
the ones that I do not need.

What happens when you use custom definitions in a notebook file, and then it
is opened in another copy of OneNote? Are the definitions embedded within
the file, or will the other OneNote program give some error?

That's a pity. Hopefully there are some suitable icons in the list that I
have not seen yet.

The formatting of an applied Tag is copied from the definition and is
stored in the section file. Because each Tag definition consists of a Tag
name, and a limited number of options (font color, highlight color, icon)
then ON can correctly draw and process and search for the Tag, even if that
Tag definitions isn't stored on the local user's machine. Adding the
ability to add custom icons would certainly complicate the matter.
